History of Senior Adult Ministry at Silvercrest
(a Ministry of HCC)

The roots of Senior Adult Ministry at Silvercrest (a Ministry of HCC) dates to Blue Valley Christian Church, begun in 2016 when Silvercrest, an independent and assisted living center, generously allowed BVCC to worship in the facility. BVCC was originally established by The Christian Church of Greater Kansas City (Disciples of Christ) and supported by sister congregations.  Officially chartered on Pentecost Sunday, 1988. BVCC built a chapel-size church with fellowship hall and began worship in its new facility in September 1992. The church was expanded in 2001 to accommodate additional educational and mission facilities. Eventually, membership dwindled and the property was sold. God led the remnant congregation to Silvercrest in March, 2016 and opened members' eyes to the need for a new kind of  ministry and a new way of being church. BVCC evolved into a Senior Adult Chaplaincy, worshipping with and ministering to residents and their caregivers. In 2022, the leadership determined that it needed a significant church partner to perpetuate and grow senior adult ministries. Fruitful discussions with Hillcrest Christian Church resulted in a merger of BVCC into Hillcrest Christian Church in July, 2023.
